The women in Babylon employed sesame oil as a cosmetic and as a food.
Sesame seeds contain between 40 and 55% lipids.
The unsaponifiable fraction (1-1,5%; <2%) contains two diarylfuranfuranic lignans: sesamin and sesamolin (up to 0.5% of each).
Unsaturated : Oleic acid (34-44%) and linoleic acid (33-53%).
