Pongamia glabra is a fast-growing tree belongs to the Fabaceae family and native to Asia. Pongamia has been used as folk medicinal plant, particularly in Ayurvedha and Siddha systems of Indian medicine. Karanja oil contains more than 50% of unsaturated acids. Rich in flavonoids and more precisely in Karanjin and pongamol, karanja oil offers insect-repellent, antimicrobial and natural sunscreen activities.
